  • Letter from a volunteer

From the East Coast to the West Coast, the impact of 40 Days for Life has been phenomenal. From the hundreds of lives saved, to the thousands of hearts changed, to the abortion workers who have left the indsutry, 40 Days for Life has seen rewarding fruit in such a short amount of time.

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN:

Good news came about as a direct result of bad weather. It was about
5-10 degrees. It had been snowing for two days and the roads were
pretty bad. Still, we had a sizable presence in front of Planned Parenthood.

The people who were gathered in prayer ran quickly to offer help when a young woman
turning into Planned Parenthood’s driveway slid her car into a snow bank.

They discovered the woman was going to Planned Parenthood for a pregnancy test. They
told her about the Alternatives Pregnancy Center across the street that gives pregnancy
tests for free. She ended up turning around and going to Alternatives.

MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA:

It amazes me that the Christians are the ones that get accused of hate.
I was praying outside Planned Parenthood when a young man came out of the building. He
was a bit scary looking. He blew cigarette smoke at me and made making mocking
gestures. I just continued to pray.

The young man ran to his car and returned with a hand-made sign reading, “Pray for the
    end of nonsense protesters”

He then walked beside me, carrying his sign. Suddenly, he stopped. He crumpled up his
sign and apologized to me for his immature behavior.
I was so taken aback. For 15 or 20 minutes, she spoke to him about God and faith. When a
young woman walked out of the building, he left with her.

It was truly a humbling experience, I know God touched him in some small way. I am so
    blessed to have witnessed it!

Even if God is changing one heart at a time, God is changing hearts! Let all of us remain
steadfast in prayer and fasting. It is working.

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY:

Hank Balch, an Aggie turned seminarian who participated in 40 Days for Life in College
Station in 2004 challenges local Christians...

“I myself have seen three mothers change their minds about killing their children. I know
many of you who will read this have never set foot near an abortion clinic, yet still firmly
believe that God abhors this practice of abortion, and you know that the only hope for these
children and their parents is the redemptive love of Jesus Christ. You know that there is
power in prayer. You know that there is power in fasting."

“But brothers and sisters, simply knowing these things are true has absolutely no effect on
the Kingdom of Christ around us,” said Hank. “If we do not engage in battle, all the armor in
the world is but vanity upon vanity.”

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA:

Catholic Bishop Michael Burbidge of Raleigh, offered his enthusiastic support of the 40
Days for Life campaign, writing a strong letter encouraging people to get involved, and
announcing that he would personally lead prayer outside the local abortion facility.

When he arrived, the abortion workers were waiting. They began photographing prayer
volunteers up close in an apparent attempt at intimidation.

They called the police and reported false allegations against the volunteers. They then
unfurled a large banner attacking Catholic priests, and began yelling at the bishop and the
    people praying with him.

Bishop Burbidge immediately did the appropriate thing for someone confronted with
spiritual warfare: he prayed. He turned his back to the clinic workers, resumed praying with
the people attending the vigil, and asked God’s blessing on all those present.

He later told the Raleigh News and Observer, “We were there to pray together, united as
sisters and brothers, united in the cause for the protection and sacredness of human life.”

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA:

"I was praying at Family Planning Associates when I saw a woman I had spoken to once
before – a married mother of seven. She was back to get a second sonogram. She was
told she had TWINS but they weren’t far enough along to abort. She talked and listened to
all of the risks, accepted help, and chose to keep her babies.”

BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON:

Kathy prayed in front of Planned Parenthood, two young women approached her. One was
four months pregnant and considering abortion because of her abusive husband. Her
friend said it was okay because “there’s hardly anything there.”

“So I gave the friend the ‘First Nine Months’ brochure so that she could see for herself how
fast the baby develops,” said Kathy.
As they walked away the pregnant mom said, “You saved a life today.” “Wow,” thought
Kathy, “what a gift from God. I whispered, ‘Thank you, Lord,’ as I walked back in a daze to
    my place at the corner.”

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA:

“For some people, this was their very first time participating in a pro-life event! We have
churches and organizations signing up that haven’t participated in the past. We heard
testimonies that gave us hope and stories that have inspired us to do more!”

BELFAST, IRELAND:

That’s right, Ireland has joined 40 Days for Life! The Derry Journal reports that a 40 Days
Life campaign has been launched by a local pro-life group in conjunction with the efforts of
thousands here in the United States: http://snipurl.com/1z49y

NEW YORK, NEW YORK:

The Queens side-by-side abortion mills begged us to end our campaign last week. One
lady manager said “I thought this 40 Days thing was over already. YOU ARE KILLING OUR
BUSINESS! We have high rent to pay upstairs.” The 2nd mill’s manager came out, the
same day, carrying a page of newspaper abortion ads, and pointing to the many other
abortion mill ads besides their own, she said “Why don’t you pick on one of these other
    places for a change!”

This is the best testimony I can send you, and the highest compliments we have received.
God has blessed us with many new helpers, and some crosses too, but he has blessed
us most with many real lives and souls saved in the NYC 40 Days for Life.

WASHINGTON, D.C.:

The 15-plus babies that we know were saved was the biggest blessing.
Next, the beautiful people we have meet and forged eternal relationships with are a special
blessing that will keep reaping benefits forever, even after the end of legalized abortion.
Being part of such a “one of a kind national campaign” has been a great blessing.

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA:

During 40 Days for Life here in Indianapolis our local state- of-the-art Planned Parenthood
abortion facility closed on at least two of their busiest abortion Saturdays. Sidewalk
counselors believe that the number of abortion decreased from an average of 20 a day to
as few as 5 a day.

We have had a number of saves, and are still counting. We have had people stop and ask
us why we are there which gives us the chance to share our Christian witness. We have
mobilized new warriors as well as reactivated others. We have brought together different
pro-life groups in our community, Catholic and Protestant, and hope to continue fostering
    these relationships.

AMARILLO, TEXAS:

The biggest blessing for us is simply this… The people who never joined us on the
sidewalk for prayers once a week on Saturday mornings, are:

NOW — joining us everyday! They want to know why we have to stop at 40 days!

NOW — they want to help save lives,

NOW — they are thinking of creative ways to help the mothers experiencing an unplanned
    pregnancy.

NOW — they are coming forward to talk about how abortion touched their lives.

This 40 days campaign has brought healing to us in ways I never imagined. I know in my
heart we not only helped heal each other but others who saw us on the sidewalk too! God
is so good! Praise His Holy Name!

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN:

The biggest blessing was the babies that were saved — 3 documented, and who knows
how many others didn’t keep their appointments, or changed their minds. For the next
greatest blessing, I can’t help but think of Jesus in the desert for 40 days. At the end of it,
went into his public ministry. And so it is here in Ann Arbor.

These 40 days have prepared the faithful for the battle that continues long after midnight
tonight. Until every child is safe from the horror of abortion, WE WILL NOT STOP. The
excitement, hope, faith and love that has been poured into each of us through this
campaign is truly from our Lord. 40 Days for Life is not ending its mission today. It is just
beginning. What an incredible blessing to be a small part of this. The Holy Spirit has
awakened our souls, and we are on fire for life!

PHOENIX/SUN CITY, ARIZONA:

After the 40 days in the desert, Jesus BEGAN His ministry of three years. We have that
same attitude. It isn’t time to quit, but time to look for ways to get moving. One of those way
is the planning of opening a crisis pregnancy center. We would like to implement not only
crisis pregnancy services, but also full pregnancy resources and new family resources as
    well.

Included in this plan is to offer ultrasound services. We have spent many hours at this
location and many prayers have gone up. We had a save this week, and many of the area
anti-abortion organizations have been brought together. We already have commitments for
next year’s 40 Days For Life campaign from radio stations, Representatives of Congress,
and local newspapers. It looks like, next year, we (Arizona) will have at least, two more
locations to add to the national campaign, God willing.

KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE:

We have been blessed with an amazing campaign. Area pregnancy help centers reported
that from the onset of the campaign, there were immediate increases in the daily number o
women being seen — as many as three times the average number for an given day! We
have verified stories of women, sitting in their cars in the parking lot of abortion mills,
deciding at the last moment to give life to their child instead.

The solidarity that has grown in the Knoxville believing community has been astounding
and has produced a momentum that will continue past the 40 Days with a whole new cadr
of pro-life workers. This campaign has saved lives, transformed hearts, created a solidarity
of effort for the Gospel of life previously not seen and blessed us with a renewed prophet
mission to promote the culture of life.
